| Town of Hardin: Population: 3,384 Hardin, located in Bighorn County is rich in history and old west folklore. Legendary men, such as Lewis and Clark, George Armstrong Custer, Jim Bridger, John Bozeman and John Colter traveled this land, a land occupied by the Crow Indians, centuries before their arrival. The county gets it's name from the Bighorn Sheep that inhabited the mountains to the southwest. Hardin is located about 60 miles from Billings, ( all interstate), and is still home to the Crow Indians. Some of the richest farmland in the country, Fort Smith, St Xavier and of course Yellowtail Dam are all located within minutes of this small town. World class fishing can be found in the ST X and Fort Smith areas, guides abound, accommodations are meager. Average home price in Hardin is in the $125,000 range, for a 4 bed 2 bath nice home. Big Horn River is close by and attracts people from all over the world. The west still rules in Hardin area and of course the Custer National Battlefield is a major tourist draw. A valley rich in agriculture, native American culture and wonderful recreational opportunities, life is easy here, quiet, slow and Montanan.
